We are making strides in 2014. To date, all PTF's in an office where there was a residual vacancy have been promoted to Full Time. There are approximately 7O more PTF employees who will be offered Full Time positions in other offices where there are residual vacancies.
These remaining positions will be filled through E-reassign. In September of 2013, we sent a letter to all PTF members strongly urging them to place their names on E-reassign for any office where there was a residual vacancy. We provided the list to our members.
Approximately half of our PTF members heeded our advice. Some members called and did not want to transfer to another office to gain Full Time status. Certainly the members choice, although not recommended. The union cannot forsee a future conversion of PTF employees in the near future outside of filling these current residual vacancies. Of course, we will actively pursue their future, but we have no guarantees at this time.
These times are a clear example of how important it is to remain an active union member. Listen to and act on the advice of your local officers and stay involved!! We are the ONLY local recently successful in the promotion of our PTF members. This was achieved with a very united, persistent effort from all local and regional APWU officers.
The union stood steadfast on managements intentions to REVERT(do away with) 17 residual vacancies. The local provided fierce rebuttle to this proposed action and were successful in keeping ALL of the proposed reversions. We could not do this without our members support! It is imperative that the members keep the union informed of all conditions of your employment.
The attack is upon us at all times and DO NOT stand idle with the mindset that it will never affect you! An attack on one is an attack on all! This local union is dedicated to the representation of every member!
We urge you to stay active and proactive!!
In Solidarity,
Michelle Nadeau, Executive Vice President
