Arbitrators uphold union positions: Desirable Duty Assignments, Reversions
The APWU's position has been upheld by arbitrators. Thanks and congratulations go to our National Business Agent Pete Coradi for his successful presentation of arbitrations on behalf of New York locals.
In two cases, one on duty assignment reversions, and one on creation of desirable duty assignments, Brother Coradi was successful in persuading the arbitrators that management has the obligation to consider and use the hours worked by PSEs, as well as overtime hours, in considering whether a reversion was proper, and/or in creating better desirable duty assignments. This is important as management continues to assign career employees duty assignments that are not desirable, and as they try to get rid of our jobs.
We must be diligent in protecting our work, in obtaining the most desirable duty assignments we can. We cannot allow management to use non-career employees during hours and days off that career employees would prefer. Protecting jobs by challenging reversions help us fight to create paths to career jobs for our brothers and sisters who are PSEs.
