Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Happy New Year to you all. It promises to be an important year in the life of our union and our movement as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Great Postal Strike, anticipate a new contract, engage in vital struggles over the future of the Postal Service and organize for important elections in the fall.
The question of who will next lead the Postal Service is an important one for our union. Our collective efforts organizing our members, our allies and the people of the country onto petitions demanding a PMG who will stand up for quality service, good jobs and the continued public ownership of our national treasure has been a success. Today, more than 350,000 people – most of them not postal workers – have signed the Grand Alliance petition to the Board of Governors.
This coming Monday, January 6 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Time, we will take part in a petition delivery event in front of USPS Headquarters in Washington. I’ll be joined by other leaders in “A Grand Alliance” as we rally and deliver the petitions to the Board.
Please tune into the livestream of the event on the U.S. Mail Not For Sale Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/usmailnotforsale/) and encourage members in your area to do the same.
The selection of the next PMG will have a tremendous impact on the future of the Postal Service and the lives of our members. We’re doing all we can to ensure the next PMG is someone who shares our vision for the future of our great national treasure.
In Union Solidarity,
