National Day of Mourning
Updated On: Oct 07, 2019

For the National Day of Mourning being observed on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, please note.

First and foremost, we mourn and honor the memory of the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush. Former President Bush served the country in numerous capacities during a long career, including serving in World War II as a fighter pilot.

For our members: The following is the general practice for Days of Mourning, but which may be modified by National Memorandums.  If you have Wednesday as a regularly scheduled day, you will be off and paid administrative leave for 8 hours. If you are nonscheduled for the day, you will receive 8 hours of administrative leave, to be used at your choice within the next six months.  If you are a PTF, and are not scheduled to work, you will be paid administrative leave equal to the average number of hours worked the previous service week.  If you are a PTF and are scheduled to work, you will be paid your work hours, plus administrative leave up to 8 hours at a future date.

If you are a regular and scheduled to work, you will be paid the appropriate rate of pay for the day, plus the administrative leave for 8 hours at a future date. If you are nonscheduled, but work the day off, you will be paid for the ovetime, plus be paid 8 hours administrative leave at a future date.

PSEs and other none career employees are not eligible for administrative leave, and if scheduled to work, will be paid as any other day.
